Per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News , New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he was "very shocked" to see the Red Sox part ways with Cora . Boston fired five other coaches amid a 10-17 start despite Saturday's 17-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles. Boone doesn't believe Cora will have any trouble finding a new job.
"I have a feeling he'll do whatever he wants," Boone said. "He's a great manager, a smart, talented person that I'm sure will have a lot of opportunities available to him. " Cora and Boone began managing the Red Sox and Yankees, respectively, in 2018.
Boone has a higher winning percentage (. 584), but Cora led Boston to a World Series title in his first season. Although Cora steered the Red Sox to a 2025 postseason berth with 89 wins, he won't receive the chance to remedy a rough April.
