Lucknow Super Giants face a critical survival test against Kolkata Knight Riders after four consecutive defeats. LSG's batting struggles and inability to leverage their home ground are major concerns. KKR, buoyed by a recent win, aim to build momentum, with their spinners posing a potential threat to LSG's inconsistent batting lineup.

Lucknow Super Giants’ season is now less about promise and more about problem solving. Four straight defeats have pushed Rishabh Pant’s side to ninth place, with their batting wobbles and inability to turn Ekana into an advantage becoming the two biggest threats to their playoff hopes. Sunday’s return to Lucknow against Kolkata Knight Riders, themselves bottom of the table, is therefore more than another league fixture.

It is a survival test for two sides short on points and confidence, but with contrasting areas of concern. LSG need runs and clarity. KKR need to prove their first win was not a one-off.

Lucknow’s slide has been sharp. Their top order has not given them the Powerplay lift a T20 chase or first-innings launch demands, while the middle order has too often been left to repair innings rather than build them. The home record has deepened the unease, with LSG yet to win at Ekana this season after three defeats in Lucknow.

KKR, in contrast, travel with a small but significant lift after beating Rajasthan Royals for their first win of the campaign. That result was built around their spinners and lower middle order and it has given them a template against an LSG batting unit still searching for fluency. Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine’s control could become central if the surface offers even modest grip.
