Virginia Tech football: WR AJ Roberts commits to Hokies
The Hokies add their first WR for 2027.

One week after the 2026 spring game, head coach James Franklin was busy building the 2027 recruiting class, adding running back Kelvin Morrison on Thursday, tight end Braxton Salster on Friday and on Saturday, Franklin received a pledge from Anthony โAJโ Roberts of Rolesville, North Carolina.

com/9JUqSYF2II โ Hayes Fawcett (@Hayesfawcett3) April 25, 2026 Roberts, a 6-foot-1. 5-inch, 193-pound wide receiver, was in Blacksburg for the spring game last weekend, which sealed the deal for the Hokies. Franklin has been recruiting Roberts since his time at Penn State.
Roberts picked the Hokies over a group of finalists that included Duke, Florida State, Wake Forest, and NC State. Roberts has a lean frame, good speed, and a background in basketball, which helps him in contested catch situations. He averaged 15 points per game in basketball this past season and caught 9 touchdowns in football.
