There was a flurry of action early, then a very long wait until their final pick.

After defense dominated the first three rounds, the offense finally got some help on Day 3. Let’s recap the final rounds of this year’s draft. Fourth-round flurry Dallas had three fourth-round picks this year: their original pick and then two from Thursday night’s trade with the Eagles.

The Cowboys moved down from the 20th-overall pick to 23rd, which they used to take EDGE Malachi Lawrence, in exchange for Philly’s two fourths. Dallas also gave up a seventh-rounder next year to complete the deal. Using their original pick, 112th overall, the Cowboys selected OT Drew Shelton from Penn State.

He was their first offensive pick of the draft, and it was no surprise that it came at tackle . With Tyler Guyton’s development still a bit dubious and a clear need for improved depth after last year, Shelton brings ample left tackle experience and significant athletic potential. He’ll need to develop his strength to hold up as an NFL starter, but the raw material makes him a solid addition to the pipeline.
