The New Orleans Saints went heavy on offense with their first five picks, and at pick No. 172, they took Ohio State defensive back Lorenzo Styles Jr.

Through the first five selections that the New Orleans Saints had in the 2026 NFL Draft, it was clear what they were doing in terms of their focus. They added three pass catchers and an offensive guard in that span, along with a nose tackle, so it is fair to say they went all-in on offense early. Then, at pick No.

172, they turned back to defense, selecting Ohio State defensive back Lorenzo Styles Jr. Initially, the Saints had selection No. 150 on their board, but traded it away to acquire Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Tyree Wilson, also getting back a seventh-round pick with him.

So, they had a big gap, and at No. 172, landed a defensive back to try and build the secondary out a bit more. Styles is the older brother of first-round selection Sonny Styles, and the son of former NFL linebacker Lorenzo Styles.

Lorenzo Styles Jr. predominantly played slot cornerback in 2025, but also got reps at free safety and in the box, with special teams versatility as well. He should be a player who can work his way into a Saints secondary that continues to need talent long-term.
