Miami also received the 200th pick, while giving the Panthers the 227th selection.
After the dust settled from the deal, Miami selected Texas safety Michael Taaffe. He likely comes in looking to provide depth at safety, though Miami needs assistance at the position and he could compete for a starting role. He can also provide special teams support.
Miamiโs previous selections have included tackle Kadyn Proctor and cornerback Chris Johnson in the first round; linebacker Jacob Rodriguez in the second round wide receiver; Caleb Douglas, tight end Will Kacmarek, and wide receiver Chris Bell in the third round; and edge rusher Trey Moore and linebacker Kyle Louis in the fourth round. Taaffe spent five years at Texas. He tallied 222 tackles with three sacks, seven interceptions, 14 passes defensed, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
The Dolphins are next on the clock with the 177th pick, the second of three scheduled fifth-round picks.
