Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton Pickle Could Mean Big News for Spencer Jones
Is it time for the New York Yankees to call up Spencer Jones?
New York Yankees star Giancarlo Stanton exited his team's win over the Houston Astros on Friday night with lower leg tightness, meaning an IL stint seems pretty likely for the slugger. Stanton was just starting to heat up, as he delivered a pair of multi-hit games against the Boston Red Sox and ripped a 108-mph RBI single against the Astros before coming out of the game. So, what now?
If Stanton does hit the IL, it will result in gaping hole in the middle of the Yankees' order. Thankfully, Jazz Chisholm is starting to hit, and Ben Rice has been terrific all year. But they're going to need another power hitter.
Amed Rosario could fill in as a DH while Ryan McMahon plays third base, but I'm also not sure you want Rosario playing every day. Could this mean that Spencer Jones may be on the way? Jones tore it up in Spring Training, smashing six home runs with a 1.
526 OPS. He has already homered five times with 24 RBI in Triple-A this season, although the strikeouts have remained an issue. But with the former top-100 prospect turning 25 years old this May, his value is dipping more and more by the day.
