Pace baseball, Gulf Breeze lacrosse win regional quarterfinal thrillers
Escambia and Pace baseball and Gulf Breeze boys lacrosse advanced in the regional playoffs, while Jay boys weightlifting won its first regional title.
Baseball Region 1-6A Quarterfinals No. 1 Pace 3, No. 8 Lake Howell 2 Braiden Cheshire was the Patriots hero again.
After hitting a walkoff home run to beat Tate in the District 1-6A fina l last week, Cheshire hit a ground ball to second and Bryce Hatton beat the throw home to send the Patriots to the Region 1-6A semifinals. The Patriots (24-4) will host No. 5 Tocoi Creek for a best two-out-of-three series starting Friday at 7 p.
m. Game two will be on Saturday at 1 p. m.
with an if necessary game three to follow. Pace swept Tocoi Creek 2-0 in the regional semifinals a year ago by a combined score of 26-0. Hatton recorded a team-high two hits and an RBI, while Aaron Muldowney allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and four walks while striking out four.
