Registration deadline nears for Dragon Boat race
Apr. 24—The deadline to register for the 13th annual Dragon Boat Race and Festival fast approaches. Teams have until May 1 to sign up.
The festival, hosted by the Decatur Morgan Hospital Foundation, will return on May 9. The fee to participate is $1,500 per team. The competition takes place at Point Mallard Park, where spectators will watch from the beach as teams of 22 row their dragon boats on the Tennessee River.
Last year, 40 teams participated in the fundraising event. Each paddler who raises at least $100 and each team that raises $2,500 will receive a T-shirt, with the team who raises the most money winning an award. According to the hospital, it has raised over $1 million through the event since the first year it was held.
