Texas A&M LB undergoes surgery, 'likely' to miss part of 2026 season

Texas A&M linebacker Daymion Sanford underwent surgery this week to repair a lower-body injury, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports . He suffered the injury during their Maroon & White Game, being forced to take a cart off the field, and with an air cast on his leg. According to Zenitz, he will "likely miss at least part" of the 2026 season.

Sanford is entering his senior season and is coming off a breakout junior season. He finished his junior season with 57 tackles, 9. 5 tackles for loss, 3.

5 sacks, one interception, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. He built on the season with an impressive showing at spring practice and was recently named a team captain for the 2026 season. His play has improved each season he has been at Texas A&M.

He played in all 13 games as a freshman in 2023 before playing in all 13 games as a sophomore, making the first three starts of his career. He started the final 10 games last season and was expected to be the leader of the linebacker rotation during the 2026 season as a senior. The Katy, Texas native has played in 39 games during his career, recording 94 tackles, 13.
