Field Yates makes bold prediction for 49ers' next draft pick
The 49ers very much could target a pass-catcher with the first pick of the second round.
The San Francisco 49ers will get first crack at the second round of the 2026 draft after trading back to the No. 33 pick. While San Francisco is reportedly open to trading out of this position , too, ESPN's Field Yates made a prediction as to who the 49ers will select.
"The 49ers will start things off by taking Washington receiver Denzel Boston," Yates wrote . "San Francisco needs receiving help, and Boston is one of the most productive in this class. He has a big body and a nose for the end zone, which would help him make an impact in Kyle Shanahan's offense.
" Boston was a player mocked to the 49ers a few times with the No. 27 pick, so it would be a nice boost to be able to take him six picks later after also adding more draft capital. Many have compared Boston to new 49ers receiver Mike Evans because of his 6-foot-3 and 210-pound frame as well as his ability to make contested catches.
Boston caught 132 passes for 1,781 yards and 20 touchdowns in four seasons at Washington. If Boston is the pick, he'd join a crowded receiver room but be in line to become the future No. 1 pass-catcher.
