Liverpool weigh up crazy €25m transfer to replace homegrown talent Liverpool could make a bold and unusual transfer to replace a homegrown talent. The Times report that Liverpool are 'aware' of the release clause in Denzel Dumfries' contract at Inter. That clause is for a mere €25m - well below his actual market value.
Liverpool nearly signed Dumfries back in January after asking Inter about a potential loan. That came to nothing and honestly, made little sense as the Dutchman had been out injured for months at that stage. But it seems the Reds' interest remains.
The report suggests Liverpool are weighing up a move and it's unknown at this stage whether they'll bite at the set price. It's a strange one, though. Liverpool's interest is purely based on Conor Bradley being injured long-term and it's impossible to imagine they'd entertain signing the 30-year-old Dumfries if he were fit.
Perhaps Liverpool sign him on the basis that he can be a starting right-back until Bradley returns, perhaps justifying moving for a player at this age. But then, what about Jeremie Frimpong? Is that not his role?
