Yankees rehab updates: Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Anthony Volpe possible return dates

Yahoo Sports

Here are updates on three Yankees who are in the midst of rehab assignments, pitchers Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon, and shortstop Anthony Volpe.

BOSTON — Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole drove up to Wappingers Falls, N. Y. , on Thursday night to make a rehab start for the High-A Hudson Valley Renegades and Carlos Rodon will be there doing the same on Friday night.

Cole allowed two runs in 4 1/3 innings in his second rehab start after Tommy John surgery while Rodon will be making his first since an offseason elbow procedure and April hamstring tweak. About 110 miles to the east, Anthony Volpe will be back in Moosic, Pa. , on Friday night playing shortstop with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders for the third time this week.

What’s next for all three? Volpe, who had offseason left shoulder labrum surgery, will be the first to return. He’s scheduled to play nine innings for Scranton on Friday, nine more on Saturday and then DH on Sunday.

That will push his rehab plate appearances to more than 30 over nine games including four appearances last week with Somerset. He’s hit well so far, batting . 333 with a homer and two stolen bases.
