He will become just the fourth US captain in the modern era of the competition, which began in 1979, to lead the team twice. "The opportunity to captain the US Ryder Cup team for a second time is a tremendous honour," Furyk said. "I am committed to putting our players in the best position to succeed as we work to reclaim the cup on European soil.

" Next year's Ryder Cup takes place at Adare Manor in County Limerick from 17-19 September. 'In Donald we trust' - how Europe's 'best-ever captain' masterminded win Record ticket prices announced for a European Ryder Cup American Furyk faced criticism after his team lost in 2018, with his four captain's picks winning just two points from 12 outings at Le Golf National. Europe retained the Ryder Cup at Bethpage in New York in September - the first time either side had won away from home since the 'Miracle of Medinah' in 2012 - when Keegan Bradley was captain of the US. Furyk is extraordinarily experienced, but this hardly feels like an inspiring appointment despite his undisputed passion for the US cause.

Once again, though, there seems to have been little cohesive strategy from the PGA of America. Furyk was well beaten by Thomas Bjorn in Paris in 2018 and enjoyed little success as a player, competing on seven losing teams. He is a hugely respected figure, who skippered the US to victory over the Internationals at the last Presidents Cup in 2024.
