Report: Rams tried signing Joe Flacco to back up Matthew Stafford
When the Rams were exploring backup QB options, they "made overtures to sign" Joe Flacco.
Before the Los Angeles Rams decided to draft quarterback Ty Simpson on Thursday, they spent the 2026 offseason evaluating and reaching out to a variety of veteran quarterbacks, most notably Kirk Cousins and Jimmy Garoppolo. However, it's now being reported that the Rams also attempted to sign quarterback Joe Flacco. According to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler , the Rams were looking to add Flacco before he decided to return to the Cincinnati Bengals.
During free agency, a source says the Rams made overtures to sign free agent quarterback Joe Flacco, who ultimately returned to Cincinnati on a one-year deal. Flacco is an 18-year NFL veteran who has spent the last six seasons operating as a premier backup, starting 30 games over that time. That included a 4-1 run with the Cleveland Browns in 2023 that launched the franchise into the playoffs, with Flacco winning NFL Comeback Player of the Year.
Flacco started six games for the injured Joe Burrow last season, going 1-5 with the Bengals. This article originally appeared on Rams Wire: Rams reportedly tried to sign Joe Flacco as Matthew Stafford's backup
