The Tinners go into their final game of the season at Aldershot Town having already been relegated back to National League South. The first Cornish club ever to play in a national-wide league had the most away travel of any football team in English history and so far have won seven of their 45 league games.

"We've learned from the experience, I think next season players will be better, will have improved," Askey, who led the club to the National League South title last season. told BBC Radio Cornwall. "The fact that we've gone full-time is a huge thing for the football club, maintaining that.

"We've just got to get over the season and hopefully it won't be the last time which we're playing in the National League. "We'll be trying everything we can next season to make sure that we become a really good National League South club. They won promotion back to National League South from the Southern League in May 2023 before going up another step two years later. They became fully professional last season, but have struggled to find suitable training facilities and also had to adapt to their gruelling travel schedule. "It's just I think the circumstances for the football club coming a long way in such a short period of time has proven too much for everyone," added Askey.

"There's a lot of things that we need to get right if we want to get to become a National League club, but it is difficult because of location and lack of facilities in Cornwall and even in Devon really. "So it is difficult to find the facilities that you need for the training to be better, but we'll keep striving. "There's been a lot of improvement, there will continue to be improvement and hopefully one day Cornwall will have a Football League club, but we're still quite a way off there yet, but I'm sure in time that will be the case.
