Eliot Wolf reveals plan for Will Campbell after Caleb Lomu draft pick
Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf made it clear that Will Campbell is still the team's left tackle.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Patriots made an important pick, trading up in the first round to acquire Utah offensive tackle Caleb Lomu. However, this did raise some questions as Lomu's career has been entirely at left tackle.
And considering the struggles Will Campbell had towards the end of last season following his return from the injury, there was speculation that Lomu could be Campbell's replacement. Eliot Wolf quickly put an end to that. "Yeah, I mean, Will [Campbell]'s the left tackle," Wolf said when asked if they view Lomu as an option at right tackle as well.
"And like I said, Caleb has some versatility. So, we feel like some of the pro day workouts that he did were on the right side and we were comfortable with that. "But again, he's very athletic, so I don't think either side will be a problem for him.
" And Campbell is clearly excited to have the new offensive tackle joining the team, as he was one of the first to text Lomu after the selection and also shared the post to his Instagram story, writing "let's get it @caleblomu. " While the Patriots have their starting tackles with Campbell and Moses, they are planning for the future with Lomu while also adding some much-needed depth.
