BEEKMANTOWN — It was a pitcher’s due the first four innings, then the bats woke up. Beekmantown needed all it could get to walk off Saranac, winning 7-6. After falling behind 4-3, the Eagles took a 5-4 lead going into the final inning.
Irelyn Ryan, Elizabeth Recore and Emma Duquette had singles in the top of the seventh to get the lead for the Spartans. However, after a single by Keelyn St. Clair to start the bottom half, there were back-to-back doubles by Ava Dauphinais and Ele Fullum that won the game for the Eagles.
Saranac’s Gracie Baxter and Beekmantown’s Lilly Perry were the stars of the early innings. Baxter struck out seven, walking one, and Perry struck out eight, walking two. “This was a great pitcher’s duel between two young stars,” Eagles’ head coach Michele Barnes said.
