South Carolina's Dawn Staley celebrates former player Tina Roy's coaching hire
One of Dawn Staley's former players at South Carolina, Tina Roy, has been hired as a girls high school basketball coach.
Former South Carolina women's basketball player Tina Roy is set to become the first girls' basketball coach at American Leadership Blythewood, a new charter school in South Carolina, according to a post from Roy’s Instagram account. On Roy’s Instagram story, she posted “Thank you Jesus! ” And included a photo indicating her hiring.
Roy played under Gamecocks' coach Dawn Staley from 2011-16. She was a part of the program's first three SEC regular-season championships. In her career at South Carolina, Roy averaged 4.
7 points and 1. 7 rebounds in 139 games played. Staley expressed her excitement for Roy on X.
