The New York Mets finally snapped their 12-game losing streak last night, defeating the Minnesota Twins 3-2 at Citi Field.
Reliever Luke Weaver recorded the last four outs, striking out three in the process. The right-hander struck out All-Star outfielder Byron Buxton swinging to finish the job and made some strong comments after the game. Weaver wasn't trash-talking the Twins, rather reassuring those in attendance about his desire to win.
“Look, people smell fear. I’m not the biggest guy in the room, but I ain’t scared of nobody,” Weaver said during his postgame interview, per MLB. com's Max Ralph .
“That’s the attitude I try to take. And if I screw up, it’s on me. But at the end of the day, I’m gonna sleep at night, and I’m gonna feel good about the effort I put in.
