Yahoo Sports

PGA Tour golfer Michael Brennan showed off a tattoo and farmer’s tan while making an unconventional shot during Thursday’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Brennan removed his shirt to attempt the shot along the water’s edge on the par-5 18th hole at TPC Louisiana. What he didn’t do is advance the ball out of the water.

Meanwhile, the ball dropped right back into the water.

“Oh, my gosh,” the TV announcer said, even before Brennan attempted the ill-advised shot. The most head-scratching part of the whole ordeal is the Zurich Classic is the PGA Tour’s lone regular-season team event. Because the first round features a best-ball format, Brennan could have taken a penalty stroke to move his ball out of the water and depended on partner Johnny Keefer.

As it turned out, Keefer’s ball was just off the green after two shots. Keefer came through. He turned in a par to keep the pair on track.

Through 14 holes — Brennan and Keefer started their round on the back nine — the duo stood at 7-under par and in a tie for sixth place. Sam Stevens and Zach Bauchou led the tournament at 11-under. Brennan, 24, has one PGA Tour win in two seasons since leaving Wake Forest.
