Mandatory Credit: David Butler II-Imagn Images On Wednesday, reports emerged that UConn football has agreed to a home-and-home series with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights for the 2028 and 2029 seasons. The two teams last met in 2013 as conference rivals.
The Huskies are set to host the Scarlet Knights on Sept. 9, 2028, and will visit SHI Stadium in Piscataway, NJ, on Sept. 8, 2029.
UConn offensive coordinator Nunzio Campanile is a former Rutgers assistant coach. This will mark a reunion for the two programs, as they clashed as members of the Big East Conference for over a decade and in the American Athletic Conference for one year before Rutgers departed for the Big Ten. They played 13 times as FBS opponents, with UConn holding a 6-7 record.
The Scarlet Knights lead the overall rivalry, 22-11, in a series dating back to 1940. UConn got the last laugh, however. In their last meeting, the Huskies defeated Rutgers 28-17 at Rentschler Field.
