NBA insider reveals path to Draymond Green extension
Although Draymond Green has a player option for next season, there's a chance that 14-year veteran is able to reach an extension with the team.
Along with Steve Kerr, Draymond Green's future is a topic of conversation as it pertains to the Golden State Warriors . The former Defensive Player of the Year Award winner has a player option for $27. 67 million before he would reach free agency following the 2026-27 season.
Although the likelihood of him opting in for next season is likely, NBA insider Anthony Slater revealed a way that the two sides could agree to an extension. Slater said , "I wouldn't rule out the decline and extend at a lower number if it helps both sides. " While Green would leave some money on the table if he were to go this route, he'd be able to stay with the team that drafted him back in 2012, something he's already expressed interest in doing.
As for Golden State, they'd be able to save money that could be spent elsewhere. That said, these decisions are unlikely to be made until after Kerr's future is resolved. This article originally appeared on Warriors Wire: NBA insider reveals path to Draymond Green extension
