Dewitt football celebrates receiving state championship rings
EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — After hanging their MHSAA division 3 state championship banner a few months ago, the Dewitt football team received their state championships rings. Back in November, Dewitt defeated Mount Pleasant 54-20 for the div.
3 state championship. It was the Panthers second state championship in program history. In the championship game, Trav Moore who enrolled early at Central Michigan University to join the football program, had 397 rushing yards for the Panthers.
The most rushing yards ever recorded in a MHSAA state title game and Moore says putting on the ring for the first time was one of the best feelings he’s ever been a part of. “It’s a blessing, truly to do it with these group of guys,” said Moore. “From the start of the season I knew with just the determination that this senior group had and the leadership we had, that this senior class could do something big.
So to come out here today and open up these boxes of rings like this is special. ” For Dewitt football Rob Zimmerman, he wanted his players to really enjoy the moment of putting those rings on for the first time. Zimmerman says he understand just how important this moment will be in their lives.
“I think the memory is important but I also think there’s a lot of attributes of going to play high school football,” said Zimmerman. “There’s so much commitment and hard work that goes into it, in so many programs and so many life lessons. I hope we can have a small impact on these guys and help to lead them in the right direction.
