He’s never made it past the fourth round at Wimbledon and has generally struggled to find his best form there.

This year, though, Zverev will be hoping to change that story. Zverev has been joined by Nick Kyrgios, Taylor Fritz, Matteo Berrettini, Jan-Lennard Struff, Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul and Justin Engel according to Samulski’s report on X [formerly Twitter].

Fritz enters as the defending champion after beating Zverev in last year’s final. Following his 3-6, 6-7 defeat to Fritz in the 2025 final, Zverev joked about being ‘tired’ of facing the American. “I’m tired of you, I don’t want to see you over the next two or three years – stay away from me,” Zverev said during the post-match ceremony.

Fritz didn’t drop serve once during the tournament and was clearly pleased with his performance in Germany. “I’m really happy, especially as it was not too great of a clay season,” Fritz said. Can Alexander Zverev claim his third Madrid Open title?
