It didn’t take long for the San Francisco Giants to apply pressure as a chaotic opening inning set the tone. The Giants sent five batters to the plate before the Los Angeles Dodgers could record an out, immediately putting stress on starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The first out came in dramatic fashion when Casey Schmitt lifted a pop-up into left-center field, resulting in a collision between Alex Call and Teoscar Hernández.

Despite the contact, Call managed to secure the catch, finally ending the Dodgers’ early scramble. By that point, however, the damage had been done. San Francisco plated three runs in the inning, and ultimately that would be all that the Giants would need to secure a 3-1 victory over the Dodgers.

With the bases loaded, Roupp issued a walk that allowed Hyeseong Kim to score Los Angeles’ only run of the night.

Still, he quickly minimized further damage, inducing an inning-ending double play off the bat of Alex Call. Roupp’s final line reflected both dominance and inconsistency: Five innings pitched, one hit allowed, one earned run, five walks, and seven strikeouts. The walks, his highest total of the season, were the primary concern, as he threw 106 pitches with just 58 landing for strikes.
