The retired Scottish international is currently a commentator for ESPN FC, and announced yesterday that he would be auctioning a number of items from his career in London at Propstore auction house.

Nichol will be auctioning his 1985/1986 FA Cup medal, his 1984 European Cup winners’ medal, his 1989 Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year award, and the match-worn shirt from the 1989 FA Cup final against Everton — as well as honors and memorabilia from his international career and a signed MLS shirt. Such a move is unusual, and Propstore’s Alastair McCrea noted, “It’s not often that material of this quality and provenance becomes available. ” Though it’s unclear why Nichol has chosen to make these items available — notably none of his League or European Cup winning medals are listed — the former Red expressed interest in keeping the items in the hands of “real fans.

” “It means a great deal to know they’ll continue to be appreciated for years to come,” Nichol said.
