The injury bug is prevalent throughout professional tennis , but it has hit the British team particularly hard at this year’s Mutua Madrid Open . The Brits only have two players, one woman and one man, in the 128-person singles draws. Thankfully, Katie Boulter and Cam Norrie are healthy because no one else is.
MORE: 8 Americans with best chance to win the Mutua Madrid Open 4 players out including Emma Raducanu and Jack Draper The two top ranked Brits out of the tournament are WTA World No. 27 and 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu and ATP World No. 28 and 2025 Indian Wells champion Jack Draper.
Raducanu has not played since Indian Wells. She contracted a viral illness in March and is believed to still be dealing with the aftereffects of it. Draper’s news is heartbreaking.
After withdrawing from last year’s US Open with an arm injury, Draper was making his return this year. He beat Novak Djokovic at Indian Wells and was apparently gaining his form when a knee injury occurred. Draper has already announced he will not play in Rome either which puts his Roland Garros availability in question.
