One of the moves involved the Packers cutting ties with Jordan Love’s 26-year-old tight end teammate after one season. “The Green Bay Packers have released TE McCallan Castles, CB Tyron Herring, and LB Jamon Johnson,” the organization announced last Friday. “The transactions were announced on Friday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.
” “All three players spent time on Green Bay's practice squad last season. Johnson appeared in two games for the Packers (Weeks 13 and 18) as a gameday elevation, making his first career start in Week 18 at Minnesota ( Vikings ). ” Castles spent one year at California, three at UC Davis, and one at Tennessee before declaring for the 2024 NFL draft (he finished his collegiate career with 92 receptions for 1,226 receiving yards and five touchdowns).
Life in the big leagues hasn’t been kind to Castles thus far, to put it mildly. The South Lake Tahoe, California native was a practice squad member with the Philadelphia Eagles , Los Angeles Chargers , and Los Angeles Rams before joining the Packers in 2025. Unfortunately, Castles failed to make Green Bay’s main 53-man roster and competed at the practice squad level yet again.
