NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman is set to make a "major soccer announcement" at 3:30 p. m. April 21 in Columbus, per a release.
You can watch the announcement livestream here or via the Columbus Dispatch's YouTube page . The presser will also include Haslam Sports Group managing partner Whitney Haslam Johnson, Columbus mayor Andrew Ginther, City Council president Shannon Hardin, Franklin County Commissioner Erica Crawley, Nationwide CEO Kirt Walker and Crew investor Dr. Christine Edwards.
Crew majority owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam, who also own the Cleveland Browns, have spearheaded the bid to bring an NWSL franchise to Columbus. Earlier today, the ownership group took a step toward possibly securing the team when the Franklin County Commissioners agreed to contribute $25 million to help build the team's training facility. Columbus would become the 18th city with an NWSL franchise if the bid is selected.
Like the league's 17th addition, Atlanta, a Columbus team's games would start in 2028. Arthur Blank's AMB Sports & Entertainment paid $165 million for Atlanta's expansion fee.
