In a disappointing turn of events, the Houston Astros transferred right-hander Cristian Javier to the 60-day injured list on Monday.

Javier is dealing with a shoulder strain and will not return to the field until at least early June. The Astros are also dealing with an injury at shortstop. Nick Allen is battling back spasms and was placed on the 10-day IL.

Taking Allen's spot on the active roster is an infielder the Astros acquired from the New York Yankees in a trade over the weekend. Shortstop Braden Shewmake had his contract selected by Houston. He's spent a limited amount of time in the Majors with the Atlanta Braves (two games in 2023) and the Chicago White Sox (29 games in 2024).
