LSU baseball won't be getting one of its best pitchers back this year as head coach Jay Johnson ruled the Tigers starter out for 2026.

LSU baseball pitcher Cooper Moore will not return in 2026, LSU head coach Jay Johnson announced on his Monday night radio show. The news is a blow to an LSU pitching staff that was hoping to see a veteran arm return late in the year as LSU pushes for a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Moore last pitched on March 20 vs.

Oklahoma. He left the game with an apparent elbow injury. Johnson would go on to say that the timetable for Moore's recovery was uncertain, but there was a chance he'd be back this year.

Now, LSU and Moore have decided to proceed with surgery and shut Moore down for the season. Prior to the injury, Moore owned a 3. 38 ERA across six starts.

The Kansas transfer was highly touted when he arrived and was proving to be one of LSU's best players. Moore's injury put pressure on the rest of the pitching staff, forcing Johnson to stitch together a plan every Sunday. Johnson mentioned that Moore plans to return in 2027.
