When can Burnley be relegated from the Premier League?

Yahoo Sports

BBC Sport's Ask Me Anything team looks at when Burnley can mathematically be relegated from the Premier League.

[BBC] Burnley will become the second team relegated from this season's Premier League if they lose to Manchester City on Wednesday. Wolves became the first team this season to have a return to the Championship confirmed after 17th-placed West Ham earned a goalless draw at London rivals Crystal Palace on Monday night. Scott Parker's side currently sit 19th in the table on 20 points, 13 points off safety with five games to go.

A draw for the Clarets on Wednesday against Pep Guardiola's title-chasing City side would mean they cannot get relegated until at least Saturday. Should they manage that, Burnley would then need West Ham to lose all of their final five fixtures and Tottenham to pick up no more than two points in their last five fixtures, as well as winning all of their final four fixtures themselves. If either West Ham avoid defeat at home to Everton, or Tottenham win away at Wolves, Burnley's fate will be sealed.

The remaining relegation spot, likely to be between Nottingham Forest, the Hammers and Spurs, is unlikely to be decided until nearer the end of the season. Forest sit five points clear of Tottenham in 18th with five games to go, while West Ham are two points clear of their arch-rivals. Current Opta projections give Burnley a 100% chance of being relegated.

Spurs have a 58. 33% chance of going down for the first time in Premier League history, while West Ham have been given a 36. 9% chance of finishing in the bottom three.
