Ayden Heaven: Man United starlet deserves major chance Manchester United found themselves in an incredibly tricky situation on Friday evening when reports broke that Leny Yoro would miss the trip to Stamford Bridge. With Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez both suspended after red cards, and Matthijs de Ligtโ€™s injury woes, United were down to the bare bones. They lined up on Saturday night with 19-year-old Ayden Heaven as the only recognised centre-back and Noussair Mazraoui playing in a back two for the first time for the club.

They rode their luck at times but, against all odds, they kept a clean sheet and United grabbed a vital 1-0 victory in the race for the Champions League. Heaven put in an outstanding effort , and his Belgian keeper, Senne Lammens , also praised the England defender. The youngster has rarely played for United, but his performance on Saturday shows he is more than ready.

Always taken chance Heaven has had limited chances to impress in the 14 months or so he has been at the club. This is understandable, as he had not started a senior game for Arsenal when he joined last year. Nonetheless, every time he has been thrown into the fire, he has come out smelling of roses.

Heaven played brilliantly in March 2025 against his former side Arsenal and was highly impressive in the FA Cup. The 19-year-old has played little this season, but has also turned up when needed. He played a lot over the Christmas period and impressed when a short-handed United kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United.

His match against Chelsea was the first time he has played double digits in a game since the start of January, but he was still able to put in a masterclass of a performance. Raw talent Heaven is not the finished article, but he has an impressive array of skills for one so young. The youngster is naturally left-footed, so provides a balance to the team.
