Canvot earns his place in the Crystal Palace XI with complete performance vs West Ham
Canvot earns his place in the Crystal Palace XI with complete performance vs West Ham Crystal Palace were held to a 0-0 draw by West Ham United at Selhurst Park, leaving the Eagles to rue their missed opportunity. The South London side had the Hammers on the ropes for most of the game but could not make the pressure count. Despite the disappointment of dropping two points, Palace boss Oliver Glasner hailed the defensive performance and the clean sheet.
Palace defender Jaydee Canvot played a key role in ensuring the shut-out, delivering a superb performance at the back. Canvot won 8/10 of his duels and made one incredible last-man tackle to earn his side the point. It was a ‘complete’ performance.
The Palace centre-half made 11 clearances and four progressive carries, proving an insurmountable challenge at the back. Canvot has grown in stature this season. He has helped the Eagles keep four of their 12 Premier League clean sheets.
He has proven an able deputy in the rearguard in Marc Guehi’s absence. His improvement has helped soften the blow of the England international’s departure in the middle of the season. The 19-year-old is clearly not yet the finished article, but he has the raw ingredients to become a key player for the club.
His raw defensive numbers are improving and another season in the Premier League could see him explode onto the scene. Palace have a great one on their hands and must be careful with his development to ensure he becomes a world-beater. Keeping Maxence Lacroix and Chris Richards around him next season will also be key for his development as a defender.
