Japan's Hideki Matsuyama was the most recent winner of The Sentry having triumphed in 2025 The PGA Tour plans to have no events in Hawaii for the first time in 63 years after this year's season opener in Maui was cancelled because of drought conditions. The Sentry was scheduled for 8-11 January at the Plantation Course in Kapalua, but had to be scrapped as the course failed to resolve a water rights dispute with another local company. An alternative venue could not be found so the season made a less ceremonious start on 15 January with the Sony Open at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu.

That event on Oahu has traditionally been paired with The Sentry, allowing golfers a two-week stay in the Pacific, but the PGA Tour is considering moving it to the Champions Tour alongside the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai.
