Whiteford baseball, softball log two no-hitters and 1-hitter in double sweep of Morenci.
MORENCI – Sammy Miller took the pressure off Terry Pant. “I was getting ready to pull him out because we had a big lead,” said Pant, Whiteford’s baseball coach. “My assistant coach came over to me and said, ‘You’re going to pull him when he’s throwing a no-hitter?
’ I said, ‘I’ll talk to him. ’” Pant did that and agreed to let Miller continue. The junior returned to the mound for the fifth inning and quickly gave up a pair of hits, giving his coach the freedom to change pitchers.
It was a day for Whiteford pitchers. The Bobcat baseball and softball teams both swept Morenci, on a day that featured two no-hitters a 1-hitter and three shutouts. The baseball team beat Morenci 14-0 and 17-3.
The first game featured a no-hitter by Caden Schroyer. “He had a pretty good game,” Pant understated. “He pitched well, but didn’t have a lot of strikeouts.
