Boston was looking to split the four-game series against the Tigers. The Red Sox got out to a 2-0 lead, but starting pitcher Sonny Gray exited the game in the third inning due to an injury. Despite the Red Sox needing over six innings of innings covered from the bullpen, Boston was able to edge out a high-scoring win, which catcher Carlos Narváez felt was needed for the team .

“We needed a game like this,” Narváez said postgame. “It was good for us (to) close the series like that, knowing that we’ve got a big one (coming up). Every one is a big one for us, especially right now.

Good team win. ” Red Sox manager Alex Cora, meanwhile, was just happy the team found a way to win in a game he felt like the team didn’t play their best. “Just find a way to win,” said Cora.
