High school baseball: Anderson claims second straight District 24-5A title
Anderson won the District 24-5A high school baseball title for the second year in a row.
Anderson’s Max McCormick scores a run in the second inning of the District 24-5A game between the McCallum Knights and Anderson Trojans at Northwest Pony Field, March 31, 2026. (Sara Diggins/Austin American-Statesman) It’s back-to-back district glory for Anderson . The Trojans won their second straight District 24-5A title Friday with an 8-4 win over Bastrop at Nelson Field.
Anderson (21-7, 10-0), which hasn’t lost a district game during this two-year stretch, finished with nine hits and five walks and led 8-1 after the fourth inning. “It’s a step in a process for us,” said longtime Anderson coach Kenny Matthews, whose team has scored 10 or more runs in eight of its 10 district wins. “We set out some pretty lofty goals before the season, and this is one of those steps.
So it’s good for the boys to accomplish that first little one to kind of get that taste and hopefully continue in this process. ” Cade Cazin went 2-for-2 with a triple and four RBIs and struck out six in 5 2/3 innings on the mound to lead the Trojans. Connor Comeau finished 2-for-4 with a double and RBI, James Cole went 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored, Cooper Chitsey drew three walks and drove in a run and Connor Donahue tossed 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief in other notable performances for Anderson.
Though the Trojans are mostly known for their offense, Matthews appreciates what his team does in the field. “Obviously, the left side of the infield with (Texas commit Hank Rippy and Texas A&M signee Connor Comeau) is well-known, but our second baseman Max McCormick is playing some of the best defense in the area … and (center fielder) James Cole has been unbelievable. … All our guys have taken their defense to the next level, so that’s been a really fun thing to watch.
