The Blue Jays' batting order and bullpen have let him down, though. Despite great early stats, Gausman doesn't yet have a win in his record, and it's a bad trend. It's a tough enough situation that if it continues, Gausman could actually end up as a trade candidate.

That's what ESPN's David Schoenfield pointed out in a new article on Monday. "It seems unlikely, but factor in all the injuries and some of the surprising performances in 2025, and it's not out of the question that the Jays just have one of those down years -- similar to 2024," Schoenfield writes. "If that's the case, Gausman could be the biggest target at the deadline.

He first pointed out that Toronto could use more pitching, and he suggests minor league pitcher Jake Bloss as the guy who could help acquire it. "Injuries have crushed the Jays early on and contributed to a tough start, but remember, they were 27-28 on May 28 last season before everything came together," Schoenfield writes.
