April 20 (UPI) -- Roman Reigns was successful in defeating CM Punk to become the new World Heavyweight Champion in the main event of WWE WrestleMania 42 on Saturday. Reigns and Punk went to war in a lengthy and highly-competitive match to close out the two-day event at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Punk found himself in trouble during the match when his legs got tied up in the top rope.
Reigns took advantage of the situation and delivered multiple Superman Punches to a defense-less Punk. Reigns continued the assault by using the ring steps as a weapon and sent Punk through the announcer's table with a Powerbomb. Back in the ring, Punk was able to unleash the GTS, but it only earned him a two count.
Punk, later, mocked Reigns by grabbing an ula fala necklace from the crowd and mimicking the Tribal Chief's setup for the Spear. Reigns countered the Spear into the Guillotine submission. As the match continued, Punk distracted the referee by throwing off the tape he wears around his hands.
Punk was able to deliver a low blow and another GTS before he sent Reigns crashing through a table with an elbow drop. Punk, in the final moments, landed another GTS but collapsed due to exhaustion after he tried another one. Reigns then performed the Spear and pinned Punk to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
