Yellowjacket report: UWS baseball, softball take it to North Central

Apr. 20—Wisconsin-Superior baseball and softball made quick work of North Central in UMAC play last week, with the baseball Yellowjackets winning their three games by a combined 26-6 and the softball team by 45-1. Thursday, April 16's softball doubleheader in St.

Paul featured a pair of routs, 23-0 and 13-1, both in five innings. In Game 1, Kylie Zwak (Duluth East) and Delaney Johnson had three hits apiece, with Zwak driving in four runs. MyKenzie Leccia and Larissa Snyder also had four RBIs.

Abby Mitchell (Carlton/Wrenshall) pitched a two-hit shutout over five innings, recording four strikeouts. Carly Stuckmayer drove in six runs for UWS in the second game, while Johnson had a team-leading three hits. Pitcher Bethany Lewis allowed one unearned run on four hits in five innings.

The series concluded with a single game on Friday, April 17 and Mitchell pitched another two-hitter. Five Yellowjackets had two hits apiece, while Snyder drove in three runs and was one of three hitters to homer. UWS (16-11, 6-3 UMAC) is scheduled for six home games in four days this week, starting with a home doubleheader against Northwestern on Wednesday.

Wisconsin-Superior started and ended its series against North Central with routs but had a competitive contest in the middle. On Thursday, April 16 in Superior, UWS blanked the Rams 11-0 in the first game of a doubleheader, as pitchers Kaden Corlett and Gio Basile combined to allow no runs on six hits, Corlett throwing six scoreless innings and Basile two. Tanner Voight paced the offense with a perfect performance, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, a homer and four RBIs.
