NFL insider gives update on WR Zachariah Branch's draft stock
Latest on Georgia WR Zachariah Branch's draft stock following misdemeanor
Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Zachariah Branch, a potential draft target for the Atlanta Falcons , was arrested in Athens, Georgia over the weekend on misdemeanor charges after obstructing a public sidewalk. Branch is a likely Day 2 pick, and since the Falcons have a need at wide receiver, he's consistently been projected to Atlanta ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft. The arrest may have initially caused some concerns, especially following the James Pearce Jr.
situation, but as details have time to light, it appears to be a non-issue. NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo provided an update on Branch's draft stock after asking around the league and it doesn't sound like the Bulldog will be affected much, if at all, by his recent misdemeanor. "Asked about this situation of a few folks on the personnel side of teams today," Garafolo reported on Sunday evening.
"They’ll do their research on it over the next few days but, barring some added info to come, doesn’t sound like it’ll be something that affects Zachariah Branch’s draft prospects greatly, if at all. " So what happened exactly, and why are people willing to overlook this situation? Well, it comes down to the police report, which NFL Network was able to obtain.
Police report on Branch's obstruction arrest: “A male, later identified as Zacharia Branch, continued to stand on the sidewalk without making an attempt to move. I continued to give Zacharia Branch verbal commands to move from blocking the sidewalk and advised that if he did not, he would receive a citation for blocking the sidewalk. Zacharia Branch smirked, then stepped backwards and to the right, then remained standing upon the public sidewalk, so as to obstruct, hinder, and impede free passage upon the sidewalk as well as impede free ingress/egress to or from the adjacent places of business.
