Texas A&M redshirt sophomore WR 'will be fine' heading into the fall

Yahoo Sports

Texas A&M WR Ashton Bethel-Roman is expected to be full healthy before fall camp amid his spring injury issues.

Texas A&M's offseason officially began after Saturday's Maroon & White Game, giving third-year head coach Mike Elko and new offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins a final scrimmage to evaluate the 2026 offense, especially the quarterback room, offensive line, and wide receiver rotation, which features several intriguing newcomers. Last season, the transfer additions of star wide receivers KC Concecpcion and Mario Craver resulted in Marcel Reed throwing for a career-high 3,169 yards and 25 touchdowns, while both receivers combined for nearly 2,000 yards and 13 touchdowns, providing elite speed, quickness, and separation that helped the Aggies reach 11-0 for the first time since 1992. Still, the "unsung hero" and rising star in the 2025 wide receiver rotation was then redshirt freshman WR Ashton Bethel-Roman , who quickly became a favorite target for Marcel Reed late in the season, leading the best game of his career after reeling in 139 yards and a touchdown during the Aggies' 31-30 comeback win vs.

South Carolina. Ending the year with 24 receptions, 503 yards, and five touchdowns, Ashton Bethel-Roman has received national attention, but has been dealing with a shoulder injury that occurred during the early parts of spring practice, but ended up playing and making an impressive catch during Saturday's final scrimmage. However, after catching the pass thrown by sophomore quarterback Brady Hart, Bethel-Roman was seen grabbing his shoulder and did not return to the game.

During the post-game press conference, Mike Elko assured the media and Aggie fan base that the Missouri City (TX) product will be ready for fall camp. "Ashton will be fine. " With Alabama transfer Isaiah Horton now in the lineup, this allows Holmon Wiggins to move Bethel-Roman around to the Z or slot receiver spot, where he should thrive given the redshirt sophomore's speed and agility.
