Nebraska gymnast Asher Cohen wins NCAA rings title
A Nebraska gymnast won an NCAA championship over the weekend. Asher Cohen won the rings title with a score of 14. 50.
Cohen is the first Husker to win a rings title since the late Jim Hartung won the rings title in 1982. Hartung passed away a few weeks before the 2026 season. This is the first national champion from Nebraska since 1999, when Jason Hardabura won all-around and floor.
Nebraska had five All-Americans at this year's NCAA Championships. Max Odden placed second in the all-around and eighth place in the high bar. Nathan York finished fifth on pommel horse and on parallel bars.
Chase Mondi also had a fifth-place finish on the floor. Luke James finished in sixth place on the floor. After winning the rings title, Asher Cohen expressed his admiration for the late Jim Hartung and the way his teammates supported him through the season.
“I have worked four years for this, and to be able to do it in Jim’s honor this year means everything and more to me,” Cohen said. “I am very proud of the work that I’ve put in, the work our team has put in because I could not have done it without them. ” As a team, Nebraska finished in fourth place with a score of 342.
