But they have received a blow in their pursuit of the England international. According to Sky Sports Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri , Gordon has already informed his friends that he wants to join Bayern Munich this summer.
The Bavarians are planning to meet with the player’s representatives in the coming weeks as they look to complete a transfer before the World Cup starts. Arsenal have a long-standing admiration for Gordon and he has featured in recruitment planning meetings. The Gunners are in the market for a top competitor to push Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard on the left flank.
Gordon is thought to be an ideal option for the North Londoners, but Bayern are in pole position to land the 25-year-old’s services. The forward has been earning rave reviews with his performances in the Premier League. He has featured in 26 league games this season, bagging six goals and two assists in the process.
Gordon is contracted at St James’ Park until 2030, but he wants to join another club where he can play in the Champions League . Newcastle could miss out entirely on European football next season, as they sit 14th in the league standings with seven games remaining.
