Giggs credits Ruben Amorim role in current Man United form Ryan Giggs has said former manager Ruben Amorim deserves credit for Manchester United’s current impressive form. Amorim was sacked at Manchester United in January after just 14 months in charge, following a difficult period at Old Trafford. The Portuguese coach won only 25 of his 63 games in charge of the Red Devils and oversaw the club’s lowest league finish of the Premier League era (15th) in 2024/25.

United have improved significantly since the managerial change, with interim boss Michael Carrick winning eight of his 12 games in charge. Carrick has led United into the Champions League positions and the club require just six points from their final five games to secure a place in the competition next season. Despite Amorim’s own struggles for results, Giggs believes the former boss deserves credit.

He believes Amorim’s signings last summer, and overhaul of the squad, has left United in a ‘pretty good place’. Last summer’s signings, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens, have all played a big part in the revival under Carrick. “Another sign of a good manager is the team that he leaves behind,” Giggs said.

“Ruben Amorim took a lot of stick for the way that he played, I didn’t enjoy watching it. “But actually I think some of his signings have been good and I think we’re now seeing that, so even though his legacy probably isn’t great with results and performances. “Actually for a long time now, he’s probably left the club and the players that he got out.
