Clemson reenters NCAA Softball top 25 rankings after sweep of Virginia
Clemson re-entered Softball America's top 25 rankings in a big way following the Tigers' ACC series sweep over the weekend.
The Clemson Tigers made a big return to Softball America's new top 25 rankings this week. The Tigers (30-17 overall, 12-9 ACC) earned it after a three-game sweep of the previously 18th-ranked Virginia Cavaliers (33-11, 10-10) over the weekend at McWhorter Stadium. Clemson won the series opener, 12-4, in six innings before holding Virginia to two runs in the final two games.
Abby Dunning and Macey Cintron combined to hold the Cavaliers to three hits, and Corri Hicks hit a two-run homer in the second inning of a 3-1 Clemson victory on Saturday. In Sunday's series finale, Sierra Maness twirled a complete-game on Senior Day for her 16th win. She walked five but held Virginia to just two hits while striking out four in a 6-1 Tigers victory.
Clemson's bats exploded for four runs in the first two innings Sunday and scored in each of the first four innings overall. Mac Pavese, Taylor Pipkins, and Kylie Channell all homered for the Tigers.
