MSU Football: Inexperience on O-line a concern for coming season
SPRINGFIELD–Casey Woods just wrapped up his first Spring camp as Missouri State’s newest football coach, and he’s already got his work cut out for him going into the fall. Aside from naming a starting quarterback for the upcoming season, Woods also has to figure out how he can turn a very inexperienced offensive line into a human shield, before the Bears open the season at Kyle Field againast SEC power, Texas A&M on Saturday, September 5. Of the 12 players listed on the roster, as the protectors of the quarterback, Junior right guard, Matthew Greene, is the only returning starter along the line.
He started six of the Bears final seven games in 2025. The teammate with the next closest resume would be center, Isaiah Villenueva, a transfer from Jax State, who started the first four games of the Gamecocks campaign, last fall. While other teammates have experience appearing in games, only the afformentioned players have starting experience, and that certainly raises concern for how Woods’ uptempo offense can fair in his first year at the helm in Springfield.
Woods told the media, before the team’s final day of Spring camp, the team will bring in four other offensive lineman for summer camp to give them a total of 16. He said he’d like to ideally have half them ready and able to go for the team’s season opener against Texas A&M. Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
