Blue Jackets Have Big Move To Make With Important Center
The Blue Jackets should be looking to make this move with Charlie Coyle.
The offseason is now here for the Columbus Blue Jackets, and it's a big one for the Metropolitan Division club. After losing eight out of their final 10 games of the season and missing the playoffs, the Blue Jackets should be looking to make several moves this summer. While adding new talent should be something the Blue Jackets do this summer, they also should be looking to keep pending unrestricted free agent (UFA) Charlie Coyle around with a contract extension.
Coyle proved to be a fantastic addition to the Blue Jackets' roster this season, and the truth is made abundantly clear with his stats. In 82 games this campaign with Columbus, the East Weymouth, Massachusetts native had 20 goals, 38 assists, 58 points, 111 hits, and a plus-3 rating. With numbers like these, Coyle gave the Blue Jackets a nice mix of secondary scoring and grit.
With the Blue Jackets looking to be a playoff team again, Coyle is exactly the kind of player that they should look to extend. He was such a strong part of their top nine this season, and it will be interesting to see if he ends up staying out because of it.
